Getting Braces Soon!!!?!

Question:

Getting Braces Soon!!!?

I will be getting my top braces soon, in a coouple of months, and I have a few questions.

1) What does the orthodontist do to put the braces on? How doe she put them on? Please be very descriptive and tell all the steps.

2)What does it feel like after and while the braces are being put on?

3)What should I do about the pain and what does the pain feel like?

4)To get braces I first have to get 4 teeth pulled. What does the dentist do to pull the teeth and how does it feel? Does it hurt?

Any other info that anybody has about braces and getting braces I would really appreiciate it!

Answers:

i have braces now and have had them for almost 2 years... i remember when i was first getting mine on i was SOO nervous, but the first thing i have to tell you is DONT WORRY!! theres really nothing to be worried about. i also had to get a few teeth pulled, and if ur dentist is good you won't feel a thing

1) the ortho first puts a little plastic thing in your mouth to hold your cheeks out and your tongue away from the teeth. then he'll clean// polish your teeth like you may have had done before. then ur orth will put glue on and place the brackets on. NONE of this will hurt. once the glue is dry and they clean it up, he'll but the wire through the brackets and put colorful bands over the wire (you can choose a color)

2) like i said before, none of it hurts while they're putting the braces on. if anything your cheeks might be a little tired afterward b/c of being held out for a fairly long period of time. after the braces are on it'll feel a little funny against your lip/ cheeks but you get used to it really fast. after an hour or too your teeth might feel "sore" or "tense" and when you try to chew it'll feel sore

3) take ibuprofen before or after the appointment to help any pain you might feel, but as far as i remember it didnt hurt. its hard to explain the "sore" feeling, but for me it just felt kind of tense, for awhile like my teeth just kind of needed a rest from the tugging of the wire. but you really do get used to it faster than you may expect

4) when i got my teeth pulled the dentist first put a cherry numbing creme around my gums so that when he injected the anestesia i couldnt feel the needle. if your getting teeth pulled on the top, he'll inject all the way to your pallet (the top of your mouth) you might want to make sure he eases his way to there so that you dont feel it. if he just injects into the pallet w/out numbing at all first, that would hurt. while ur dentist is actually pulling out the teeth, the only thing you'll feel is a little pressure, NOT PAIN! afterwards your face around the mouth will feel very puffy and kind of odd. it will be numb so you cant feel anything.. it will subside after an hour or two..

thats about it! but i really suggest you ask your dentist and ortho the same questions b/c im not an expert.. but just relax! dont worry :D
