It depends on a few factors. The type of crown , eg. gold , porcelain, porcelain fused to metal,etc. Porcelain has very poor flexion therefore cracks and breaks easier, therefore not advised for back teeth. Some people don't like gold showing in their mouth therefore you can have a PFM crown. A gold crown with a buccal facing is more ideal as gold wears at a similar rate to teeth. Porcelain on the other hand wears away your natural teeth. Gold crowns generally have the best prognosis. Hygiene also plays a huge part.
