Should I go to a dentist school to get a root canal?!

Question: Hello.. basically my story is that I didn't go to a dentist for a few years while in college and now I have to have some work done on my teeth. My only problem is that I'm unemployed and uninsured (trying to find a job for the last 3 months with no success) and the money our household makes goes towards paying the regular bills and food.

One of the things I need done is a root canal on one of my molars. The past few days it has suddenly begun to hurt a LOT, my jaw aches and there is this dull throbbing pain near my gums that wakes me up at night and everything. I don't think I can stand having this much longer but I know I cannot afford a root canal treatment right now!

Someone suggested that I look at a local dentist school for discounted treatment, I think it is my only option.. What do you think? Do they numb you as well as a regular dentist, or could it possibly hurt more with an inexperienced doctor? I just want the pain to go away.

The dental school students would be supervised, and the trainee does not work on a patient until they are competent.

I suggest you get treatment before you need to have an extraction, or penicillin, or both.
The student gets the experience, and you get the treatment, so it's a fair exchange.
Get on to it immediately, or you could be having a nasty Christmas with you face blowing up, due to infection.

Hi Im a dentist and if you email me more info ill try to assist you in getting treatment.
Is the tooth hurting at the moment?
