Posssibilties:
1. Failed RCT - could be for a variety of reasons such as inadequate preparation, undiagnosed extra canals, strange root canal shape not conducive to therapy,... This may not necessarily indicate negligence on the part of your dentist, but he might just need a specialist to retreat it.
2. Root fracture - unlikely if the tooth has been crowned, but possible.
3. Perforation of the side of the root canal, usually as a result of a misplaced reinforcing post.
Only your dentist will be able to give a firm diagnosis. Get some antibiotics in the meantime.

I'm not too sure. I've had 3 root canals and it only hurt that day. I would consult your dentist asap

Oopsie :(
A root canal is a procedure to remove the nerve in your gumb that causes pain/feeling in the tooth. It could be that the nerve wasn't completely removed or that it grew back - and that would cause a LOT of pain. I definitely wouldn't eat/drink anything that's hot or cold, take some OTC Ibuprofen, but try not to take more than the recommended dosage unless the pain is too extreme. If you're in excruciating pain, I'd go to the ER and they'll either give you anesthetic or prescribe you Vicodin or something stronger than OTC pain relievers.
