Help with 5 year old and his bad breath.?!

Question: My son has the worst breath sometimes. Horribly bad! I get him to brush his teeth and it still happens sometimes. I don't want him to get made fun of at school for it. Is there anything I can do? Anything he can eat to prevent it? He hates mint toothpaste he thinks its too hot. And I know he cant really gargle. I brush his tongue and cheeks too. Thanks!

Kids who are unable to write in cursive need help brushing their teeth every day. Brush his teeth and tongue at least 2 times a day. Let him practice gargling just water. Gargling water and drinking more water will help. Don't resort to mints, this is not the answer. They are a choking hazard for small children and many mints are made with sugar which is obviously not good. Many kids sleep with their mouth open and this dries out their oral cavity. Young children often have very large tonsils which can contribute to halitosis. Tonsils actually start to shrink at about age 9 and that will help somewhat. Make sure you take him to have his teeth cleaned and examined every 6 months.

It's time to get him familiar with a dentist so he won't be afraid of them as he gets older. The dentist will clean his teeth and can give you advice about his breath.

listerine strips
any mints.
