Could I do this instead of getting my wisdome teeth removed?!

Question: I went to the dentist today, and was informed that I needed to have all four of my wisdom teeth removed because they are coming in impacted. However, they aren't in yet, so they have to do that thing where they cut open my gum before they remove the tooth.

What I want to know is, can I just have them remove the teeth that my wisdom teeth will be impacting? Would that hurt less? would that be better? Is it less painful to have the dentist just pull out the ones that are already in my mouth, or to cut open the gum, and THEN pull the wisdom teeth? Or should I just go ahead and get the wisdom teether pulled?

PLEASE let me know, because I want this to hurt as LITTLE as possible.

it will hurt, but you have to do it. if there was an easier way, your dentist would do it. "impacted" means they are possibly growing in horizontally, so removal of the good teeth would do nothing. you do get gas as well as painkillers for after the procedure. when i had mine out (same situation as yours) i was laid up pretty badly... but, i got better. when my husband had his out, though, he was fine the same afternoon. don't worry - you'll be fine!

No practicing dentist is going to remove your final molars to make room for your wisdom teeth to come in. Most people's wisdom teeth do not come in straight to begin with, so even if a dentist DID remove your molars, your wisdom teeth would probably come in sideways and backwards and all kinds of hosed up, and would have to be removed anyway.

I had my 3 impacted wisdom teeth extracted (cut out) about a month ago, and it is not bad. They will knock you out before the procedure, and afterwards they put you on so much pain medicine (I was on a strong dose of oxycodone) that you won't even remember anything until about three or four days after the procedure. For me, the worst part of the whole thing was being on the oxycodone, because it made me feel sick to my stomach while I was on it.

I thought that the pain comes from the wisdom teeth growing out. I would consult the dentist, because they're the tooth puller.

You don't understand the definition of impacted.
I had my wisdom teeth removed when I was 21 because they were impacted.

Impacted wisdom teeth CANNOT come into position. That is the definition of impacted. There is not enough room in your jaw bone for the tooth buds to get into proper position and push their way through the skin properly.

The only one whose opinion matters on the possible pulling of other teeth that are in the way is your dentist. ASK him. If he feels this is a workable solution, go for it. After all, he's doing the surgery.

BUT...
the wisdom teeth are currently much smaller than the fully grown teeth that block them, so I suspect the dentist will recommend that as the preferred option.

It's not such a big deal. They kept me overnight one night and gave me lots of ice cream, to soothe my aching jaws and make up for the discomfort smiling gave me. The jaws didn't ache more than a few days, but the ice cream was a great idea.

I was having my wisdom teeth come in but they didnt come through the gum yet, well i was turning 18 soon and was going to be off my parents insurance by then so i had to let them cut open the gum and get the teeth out. It wasnt bad at all. It was hard to eat for a few days. but it would be like that if you had any teeth removed. Trust me just get the wisdom teeth taken out even if they are still under the gum. It isnt that bad i promise. Plus they give you pain killers so you will do fine.

I was so scared of having my wisdom teeth out!! But it was done under general surgery, I was home half a day later, and didn't need any pain killers....

Ignore the horror stories - there are just as many "it wasn't a problem" to every nightmare!! Its just that people don't talk about the easy painfree stuff!!

Keep your adult teeth - lose the wisdom teeth!! Nobody notices the gap when you open your mouth!!

I suggest going under. I had to have all four of mine removed. From past experiences with dental surgury, you will feel pressure. It is nessesary for the wisdom teeth to be removed because they are highly subseptible to cavities. Two of mine were inpacted so they had to go deeper to remove them. Impacted means that they are in there very deep. Another thing is that you will be in alot of pain afterwards. Don't pull the ones in your mouth ether. Another thing is that if you don't get this done soon the wisdom teeth's roots will grow up in your sinus cavity.
