I got a dry socket also when I had my wisdom teeth pulled. It is definitely the worst pain ever and it hurt so bad that I threw up from all of the pain. My suggestion to you is to go back to the oral surgeon and let them pack your dry socket. They will irrigate it (squirt warm salt water in it to clean it out) and then they will fill it with a ginger tasting litmus paper. The pain will go away instantly. About 2 days later you'll have to go back and get the process repeated.

After about a week, the dry socket started to heal up on its own and the surgeon gave me a syringe to irrigate it myself. Just so you know, irrigating it doesn't hurt at all-- it actually makes it feel better. In about 2-3 weeks you should be all better.

Oh, if you don't have any already, see if your dentist can prescribe you some vicodin or other pain killers to get rid of the pain! Good luck~ I know dental pain is the worst pain in the world!!

my sister lasted about a 1 month and a week, it all depends on how fast your body heals

When I had that it lasted almost two weeks and was the worst pain on earth! Good luck man.

damn that is terrible. i've always feared this myself...i've been told it takes a month but i'm not sure.

it will hurt for a few days if you can not stand the pain call your dentist for some pain killers i had do do this because i was in so much pain

I feel really sorry for you, it hurts like hell when you have a "dry socket", go to the dentist and get them to prescribe some strong painkillers, this could last for a least a month.

Left alone, dry sockets will always heal. It takes a month or two, and the pain is persistent for the entire period of healing. Antibiotics are not useful in curing a dry socket, and the usual pain medications are not very effective. It is better to go back to the dentist who extracted the tooth and let him or her "pack" the socket. This is a procedure done (usually) without anesthesia even though it can be painful, because it does not take too long, and the pain relief is almost complete, beginning an hour or so after the socket is packed. The first packing will provide relief for about 24 hours. As you return to the dentist and the old packing is removed, the socket washed out and new packing is placed in, each succeeding packing debrides (cleans) the socket and renews the pain relief. A second packing may last 24 to 48 hours, and succeeding packings last longer still. Within a week (or sometimes more depending on the severity of the dry socket), The socket begins to heal from the bottom up and can be left empty without pain. I feel sorry for you :O(
