I've had braces for 3 days and still can't chew? Is this normal?

I actually can chew, but it hurts a lot. Other than times when I'm eating, my teeth dont hurt that much.

Thank you all so much, all the advice is good... hopefully it wont take a full 2 weeks for me, because I havent chewed in 10 days so far (dang spacers!)

Day 11! Thank goodness for refried beans!

There is a period of adjustment; two weeks is average.
Take some Advil or Aleve prior to eating, it'll help.

Don't worry, as you go along in your ortho therapy, any adjustments are neer as bad as the initial placement. Just focus on how much more you'll like your smile once it's done!! And for the love of all that's holy....wear your retainer afterwards!!! That way, you won't have to repeat the whole process again.
