Dentures now or over a?!

Question: I was told 4 days ago that I need 24 extractions and full upper and lower dentures. NO teeth can be saved :( My question is, I have 2 options. 6 teeth pulled over 4 visits at my dentist or all pulled at once by a oral surgeon. If i do it over 4 visits I have to go about 2 months with no teeth, if I do it all at once I walk out with dentures that same day BUT in 2 months they wont fit due to reduced swelling. I could have them relined but that doesnt always work, so I run the risk of having to buy new dentures in 2 months again, but I dont have to go any time being embarresed with no teeth. ADVICE ADVICE LOL

If you were my patient [and did need all of these teeth extracted] I would recommend that you have all of your back teeth removed leaving the 6 front top and bottoms for looks. I'd let you heal for a month and make you immediate dentures [which would take another month]. Then either the oral surgeon or I would extract the front teeth and insert the immediates. The fit would be MUCH better than having all of your teeth extracted at once and inserting dentures as there would be some idea of where the gums would be. You would probably still need a reline in a few months [in our office we let the patient decide when, as the longer time frame between extractions and reline the better] but the chance of needing new dentures would be lessened. I am sorry to hear that all of your teeth must come out as you will NEVER be able to eat the same or taste food the same again. If it was me, I'd get a second opinion and see if a couple lowers could be salvaged.

I say get them all pulled at once. The pain over 4 visits is going to suck and it's better to get it all done and over with. Or you could do it over 2 visits and have a partial plate made after the first visit and get the dentures after the 2nd visit. It's up to you.

wow,i'm lost for words

Really check with the Dentist again, You need two teeth on the bottom. Trust me, try and save somthing on the bottom.
Full dentures are not that bad but the bottom sits on top the bone having nothing to hold it in place, while the top adheres through natural suction. The lower is always the hardest to maintain with fit. That is where movement of occurs(tongue, cheeks.lower jaw) Try and get 2 implants on the lower(they can place them at time of extracton)and crown them later. Ask if a temporary /stayplate denture can be used and then after 6 weeks go back for permenent denture immpressions.
Relines get tricky if you do an office reline then a lab reline Which is how you should. You pay for both.Depending on the extent of the extraction. I would do top then bottom. You have many options ,consider your swelling range your bleeding history. your discomfort tolorance, and your need for estetics.i really guess that 4 visits is weeks of sockets and lengethy healing its like to long and one after the other will drag it out. Ask about the one arch at a time. Also consider if you have surgical extraction needs, if the cause is periodontal there loose already, but if it strcture loss damage ,carries or nercrotic might go to the oral surgeon. Also ask the denture provider what is the adjustment policy make sure you can get adjustments as needed with out added cost except for reline repair ect. after the exts and denture plascement you will need adjustments 10-14 day till the swelling recedes but if you heal faster go sonner
