you have to go to a ortho dentist and he will put the spacers in if needed then about a week later he will put on the braces, the dentist takes out the spacers, take some Tylenol if you have any discomfort my son just got out of braces and he hated them at first and got to like having them because he got to change out the colors on his braces, how long you will wear them depends, he wore them 18 months and i had his retainer on the bottom bonded in, meaning he can not take out the bottom retainer it stays in there it fits behind the bottom teeth, you still have to be careful about eating hard chips with the bonded in retainer as it can cause the retainer to break off and then you have to go and have it re-bonded (most ortho dentist will reattach it the first couple of times no charge but after that it will cost to put it back on), he has a clear removable one he wears at night for the top, just watch out for gum, and chips like Doritos, they sometimes break some of the wires, other than that he ate anything and everything, and now he has a beautiful smile. remember to brush, floss and still have your teeth cleaned twice a year and keep up on your visits to the ortho dentist also.

That sounds like fun, good luck.:)

The dentist takes the spacers out... you get spacers a week before you get your braces...

Dont get the plastic clear retainers, they bend & break easily I had to go to a different doc just to get a new bottom retainer..
You do not HAVE to get spacers, only needed if the dentist thinks that there isnt enough room between your teeth

Spaces do not fall out on their own. If they did there would be no point in them at all. You get spaces about 2 weeks before they put your braces on. I've had braces for 1 year now and have 1 year to go. Make sure when you get your braces you listen to everything your orthodontist says and in no time you will have a beautiful smile. Good luck

Spacers help shift the teeth so that braces are easier to put on and don't hurt as much when they are first put on. I believe my son wore them for 3 weeks or a month. Most of them fell out on there on, but I think a couple stayed in place.

Don't eat sticky or hard food or chew bubble gum, if you do you will break your wire. Also, make sure you brush your teeth really well, at least 2 times a day (better every time you eat) and have the orthodontist assistant teach you how to floss with the braces. If you don't keep your teeth clean, they will be a different color when you take them off, also your gums will get messed up.

Don't be afraid to talk to your orthodontist about any questions you have.

Good luck.

it all depends on your teeth.

if you do get spacers put in the dentist will take them out. be on the lookout for one to get loose and fall out, tho.

best thing to know is... if you had a new car... and you decided to 'pimp your ride' by spending a ton of money on it, you would then drive it offroad? leave it unlocked in a bad part of town? only wash it twice a year? OF COURSE NOT! you would treat it twice as good as before because you want it to LAST!

Do the same with your teeth. AVOID sugary drinks... damaging candy like caramels (while you have braces)... brush and floss a LOT... never miss a dental appt.

Teeth last a long long time (we find skels with their teeth thousands of years old) but if you dont care for them you can loose them all inna decade.
