Answers:

I hope my experience helps you . . .

I was put under general anesthesia while mine were removed, so there was zero pain (1). They took at all four at the same time, which I think would be the smartest thing - why go through the whole process twice (2). Afterwards they put cotton pads in the back of the mouth to absorb blood and allow the clots to form; these should be changed as often as necessary (I had very little bleeding). Then we went for a milkshake (no straw, of course), and it felt great to have that coldness in my mouth (3). Unless you have troubles clotting, you shouldn't bleed for more than a day or two (4). You can eat soft things the first couple of days; eating other things is up to you, as you judge what your mouth can tolerate. But be sure to go to your follow-up appointments for irrigation - that is when they flush out any particles of food that may be inside the holes where your teeth used to be. This is very, extremely important because if the gums heal up with food inside, it can cause infection (5). I recovered very quickly; I had practically no swelling, bleeding, or pain after the first couple of days, although I DID miss my first irrigation appointment and that is bad - leaves a yucky taste in your mouth. I think part of the level of pain and swelling depends on how the teeth were placed in your mouth and how much the surgeon had to dig to get to them (forgive the expression) (6)

Remember: just follow your dental surgeon's instructions. They will give you all the information you need about what is normal and what is not. My best tip is the milkshake - yummmmy and felt soooo good.

Good luck!
