The worst part is over. I had 8 teeth removed in total in order to make room for braces to shift them around enough.... all 4 wisdom teeth, and 4 other teeth. That sounds like a lot but I guess I have a very small overcrowded mouth.

Getting the wires put on is nowhere near the pain of getting the teeth removed. It's a pain having the brackets glued to your teeth because it takes about an hour, but there isn't much pain.

I have heard girls saying they were crying because their braces hurt so much, but I never had anything worse than some strong tension and maybe very minimal pain for like the first day after you get it tightened. Maybe it was just nothing to me after having 8 teeth surgically removed and having to be on percocet for a week straight, with pain so bad that I woke up at 3 in the morning and had to take another one to sleep again.

You shouldn't have to get braces again after it's all finished as long as you do what they say. You will get a wires glued to the back of your teeth after your braces are done, which will keep them in place. Wear your elastics like they tell you to, and after you're done wear your retainer all the time that they tell you to, and things will be fine.

If you are really worried about the pain, just take an Advil (ibuprofen), tyenol, or something like that before you go.

After the braces come off, you'll wear a retainer for about a good 6-12 months afterwards - this basically retaines the new placement of the teeth and allows them to 'settle' in that position permanantly. Only by NOT wearing the retainer do teeth move.

After you have had your braces removed you should have to wear a retainer which prevents the teeth moving while they settle into the final position. This is a plastic mould of you teeth that fits over your teeth and is clear. When I had mine I had to wear the retainers both day and night for a period and then only in the night towards the end. If you don't wear the retainer then your teeth could go back to where they were before and the braces would have been a waste of time. It is therefore best to wear it - good luck.

2 Years, that a long time. I just have 3 months. I done a little over 2 months. But, what you're trying to say is that you're getting your braces tightened on the 24th. Every time they tighten your braces it will hurt as much as it did on the first day. That's for the first 2 or 3 tightenings. After that you get used to it. I got used to it ages ago and now I can't even feel my braces.

After the 2 years of braces you will need to wear something called a "retainer" which helps keep you teeth were they should be.
You don't have to get them. But if you don't then your teeth will go back to looking the same as it did in the beginning.
Your mother and father probably don't want to waste all that money.
So do a favor for everyone. Wear the retainer and suffer down the next 2 or 3 days and the next 2 or 3 tightenings.

I was an Orthodontic Assistant for 5 years. They will either change the wire, tighten the wire or change the rings that go on the wire. If you wear your retainers at least every night after braces come off...your teeth will not move.

Hang in there we all had to do this and you will like the end result. Take Advil for pain or whatever they prescribe and use orthodontic wax to protect your cheek from anything sharp. Your mouth will get used to this eventually and it will feel wierd when they take them off.
