Questions about getting my wisdom teeth out?!

Question: im a 17 year old guy. I'm done having braces, still every now and then i visit my Orthodontist just for a checkup to see how things are going, he says i need to get all my wisdom teeth out before they begin to shift my teeth.

So, people, does it really hurt so bad after you get ALL 4 wisdom teeth out? my 19 year old sister cried because of the pain, and the pills to relieve the pain obviously didnt work to well.

Would the pain make a difference afterwards from getting them out with anesthesia being asleep, or getting anesthesia through needles, being awake? because my oral surgeon is doing it while im awake with the anesthesia through needles.

what kind of pain relieve item did you use afterwards that worked?

Is it true you can only eat things like soup or something for a while? and if you get this little tube thing that sucks in food/water or something that may get stuck in those holes left from the wisdom teeth?

how long will it takes for the holes to close up?

I had all four taken out at once; I was put out. I rode my bike the next day, went to a party, and did other things that raised my blood pressure (which increases the throbbing) but it wasn't bad at all. I'm sure the skill of the oral surgeon had something to do with it.

There was some pain, but that was nothing in comparison to the swelling in the hours after the surgery ... my mother actually fell down laughing at it swelling up before her eyes. Again, it wasn't bad in the few days afterwards, I kept icing it all night long, just switching from one side to the other.

Eating was a little difficult, but soft foods helped the first few days. All in all, not worse than having your braces placed on in the first place; in my memory, that was worse.

it takes the same time to close up as other teeth like a couple weeks, its better if you dont eat food that will get in you gums so , it is best to eat soup and maybe sandwiches, also, either way the pian is going to be the same even if your awake or asleep during the surgery

It depends how complicated the teeth are. Impacted will hurt more most likely, and you never know how easily the teeth will come out till hes doing it. I had a very complicated extraction fully awake and yes it hurt bad when i got out, take your pain killres before the freezing wears off and you should get through it. The pain doesn't last that long.

If you follow what they tell you itll heal up within a week to 10 days, the bleeding should stop from 1-3 days max.

Eat soft foods, dont drink soda, dont drink with a straw, dont smoke. Don't eat foods with little bits like rice. Yeah if food gets stuck or you disturb the blood clot you can get dry socket which is not fun at all. Do what your told for the first 4 days and keep up with the pain killers and some ice and you should be good.

I was about 20 when I had all four of mine taken out -- let them put you to sleep - first.
Definitely do all 4 at once instead of going back again as you'll get past the pain a LOT faster.
I was scared to death - people told me horror stories and I found out they were not true. The day/night after is the bad one where the pain pills don't help a whole lot -- but you'll at least be happy in pain - ha ha. I remember just the one day that was bad. Don't worry - it will be okay. My brother-in-law came to check on me as he worked nights and I was afraid of choking on my own blood -- that was what I "heard" -- that won't happen. You'll be swollen (be sure to take pictures as I still have my "chipmunk" pics and they are funny now) -- you will really honestly LOOK worse than you feel. I went to work - worked in a tiny law firm at the time and I was fine -- my boss made me go home because I was ugly - LOL LOL....it was funny actually. Good luck - it will be overwith soon and it's not as bad as you may fear. The holes are there for a while but all of a sudden they're not and you forget about it -- your tongue will constantly move to the holes -- it's got to be psychological or something. Good luck -- and LET THEM PUT YOU TO SLEEP -- it's the BEST way always.

I got all four of mine taken out 2 years ago. I was 15 and I was allergic to the painkiller. It hurt a little and I couldn't open my mouth all the way for a little while and I still can't open it as far as I did before. They put disolvable stitches in your mouth and you get a syringe to push the food out of the holes so you probably shouldn't worry too much about getting food in the holes.

Okay, I seriously shouldn't say this, but getting my wisdom teeth cut out was the worst pain of my life. I was so careful and did EVERYTHING the oral surgeon said and I still got 2 dry sockets, which hurt SOOOO bad. Then I got infections in the other 2 holes. The oral surgeon said that sometimes just happens, that I had taken good care of them. I was swollen for many weeks and in such pain that I didn't go back to work for two weeks because the Dr. said he didn't want me to. I had been put asleep for mine, btw. The Dr. also told me to double my Vicoden because of all the pain. Just when I thought it was over with all the complications I went back and he pulled two bone chips that had worked there way up out of my gums. The best thing is after not eating anything but shakes (with a spoon of course, you aren't supposed to suck through straws) for weeks I lost a lot of weight!

Don't get too scared, though. All my friends went to the same guy and had NO COMPLICATIONS. My one friend was on the phone to me that night, eating mashed potatoes the next day, and by the end of the week solid food.

Everyone is different, I don't really know anyone else who had the problems I did.

I got mine out. Fist let me tell you all dentist will tell you that ive never heard of a person who hasnt had their dentist tell them that. Secondly i would wait until it causes problems because they might not they could just not move anymore. I waited until my jaw started getting tight and i needed it done. So i went there they put me to sleep in office and cut them out. Now ive heard of people getting them pulled but mine were cut. HOnestly it was soooo bad i mean your mouth and cheeks are swollen and you cant really eat much of anything for a bit to be honest for at least a few days. Just make sure you wash your mouth out to get rid of blooad and such and try not to use a straw avoid those. After a week you will feela big difference and within a period of time you will be back to eating. Now i will tell you it will take almost a year for your mouth to fully recover but you wont be in pain and will be eating normal long before that.

I reccomend you get put to sleep through meds that works surefire. Besides once your under poof your done and in no time you will be home sleeping it off.
