Guaze inside of a finished root canal?!

Question: is that okay? is that normal?

Answers: is that okay? is that normal?

My guess here is that the root therapy was completed and then the dentist placed a cotton pellet or pellets (gauze) in the opening of the tooth prior to putting temporary material in place.

This is normal and it is done so that the tooth can be easily accessed when building up the internal structure for the final restoration (which should be a crown).

By the way the cotton is taken out before doing the crown.

Good luck!

uh ? hell no. it should be gutta percha, not guaze..and it should have a crown over it when finished

Did the DDS tell you he left guaze in the root canal? Sometimes pieces of a file can brake off inside a tooth when a root canal & the DDS cannot get it out. It may not cause any problems at all or sometimes it can lead to infection. Make sure your DDS documented it in your chart and acknowledged it. So if you have any problems in the next few weeks he will not deny he left something behind. But honestly, the the dental world, it happens more often than people admit and usually everything is okay. Root canals should last you at least 7 years, if anything should feel abnormal under that time, let the DDS who preformed your original root canal know.
