call your dentist first thing in the morning.... for now take 600 - 800 mg of ibuprofen

If you still have the crown, push it back on the tooth. You need to be sure that the crown is going on the right way, so push gently. If it doesn't go on the way you first position it, try turning it until you find the right way. Don't chew on it and it should stay in place until tomorrow.

If you had a root canal on the tooth, there really shouldn't be any pain because there is no nerve in the tooth. I'm not sure I understand what your situation is if you are having pain. If the pain in from the gum, you can use Orajel or Numzit, but if the pain is from the tooth, you should take Motrin or some other pain reliever. The prescription dose of Motrin is 800 mg, two to four times the recommended over the counter dose, so take what you need.

The dentist will recement the crown if he can. If there is a problem other than just the cement letting loose, he may need to make a new crown.

If the tooth has had a root canal then you shouldn't have any pain at all because the tooth is essentially "dead." Anyway, what you want to do is place the crown back on your tooth. First you want to orient the crown on your tooth to make sure you know which way it goes on and practice putting it on and taking it off a few times. Dry the crown thoroughly and dry your tooth as good as you can. Then place cream denture adhesive in the bottom of the crown... just enough to fill the bottom. Then push it back on. This should help with any sensitivity. The dentist can cement it back on your tooth if it fits properly and there is no new decay around the margins (where the tooth meets the crown) or under the crown. Good luck!

swish some warm salt water around the tooth and then gently try to get the crown temp back onto the tooth and don't chew on it or touch it until you can get to the dentist. They will either cement it back on or make a new cap until they can get your permanant done. Don't worry. Motrin or something with Ibuprofen in it should help with the pain. Ambesol or Orajel should help with any pain too and ice the mouth or warm heat until you can see the dentist. Good luck. It stinks when that happens.
