how can i get my teeth whitened without paying too much

I have a classmate who gargles with hydrogen peroxide.
Like a "couple of drops in a glass of water"
and she does this every day. She says her mom had been doing it since she (mom) was a teen and didn't experience any side effects.
She has pearly white teeth.
and she says that's all she does besides daily
brushing and flossing.
I am thinking of doing this coz I bought a box of the
Crest white strips on eBay (which I got ripped off...) LOL
but it isn't working.
