Is the Surgeon just trying to pad the bill?!

Question: I have a toothache from a molar. I am on antibiotics and was referred to an Oral Surgeon. The Surgeon is telling me I should have a root canal on the molar and then he will extract it.

That sounds crazy to me? Why would I spend money on a root canal for a tooth that will be removed in a month?

sounds like overkill to me. a root canal is more of a permanent procedure than a quick fix. just pull the SOB and be done with it

Thats insane. Dentists dont do that. Maybe you misunderstood him.

Maybe he meant root canal OR extraction.

Did you ask the dental surgeon???

Get a second opinion or go with your gut instinct. They are trying to tell me if I dont get my wisdom teeth out ASAP I will die and burn in hell.

They want your money.

Does not make sense, ask him why don't you.

To keep the infection from spreading to your other teeth.

Don't, that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. That surgeon is trying to get into your wallet!!!

why wait a month? just get the tooth extracted if there is nothing they can do to save the tooth. you have probably been on antibiotics long enough for the infection to calm down and for him to be able to take it out.

Sounds ridiculous to me too. Did you ask him that question? What was his response?

it is crazy because as soon as that tooth is pulled the infection is gonna go away and no need for a root canal. I suggest getting a second opinion. If he is doing a root canal then that tooth needs to try to be saved and out a crown on it.

Consult an endodontist.

My fiance had the same thing tried on him. Since his wisdom teeth were growing in already, he opted to have the two back teeth extracted, as opposed to a root canal. He even said no to the anathesia (to save $400, even though the shot is worth less than $50), and they were incredibly rough with him beforehand and while administering the novacain. I would just get the tooth pulled, if I were you.

You might have damage beneath the tooth. I think you need a root canal to put a cap on anyway, lastly, and sadly, some doctors are like air conditioner salesman, they will sell you things that you dont need. Get a second opinion. Sorry about the a/c crack, its just that the last guy tried to scare me into a complete 8000.00 system, on second opinion the new guy found a leak, and charged me 78.00.

you can not get a root canal for a wisdom tooth. it has to be pulled. I have insurance and they don't want to pay for my wisdom tooth to be pulled so I asked can I get it filled they said no only extracted.

You must have misunderstood 'cuz oral surgeons don't do root canals.......
