Answers: do brces hurt juss wanna know b/c i might get some

i had braces for almost 6 years and i got them off in august, and thank god!

getting braces on and off dont hurt, but when they tighten them each month, the tightening part doesnt actually hurt, but maybe an hour or so after you leave the office, or when you try to eat its like a really bad toothache and it lasts anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on how much and what you eat.

oh yeah, also, more than the tooth pain, your gums and inside of cheecks will prolly get scraped up. i always used to get little cuts and split lips every once in a while since the metal was constantly rubbing against them. in winter though [if you live in cold weather] just use chapstick and thatll help with the lip situation, but the inside of your mouth cant really be helped.

i wouldnt be too worried though, its not bad bad pain, just take some tylenol after appointments, eat soft foods [the more hard things you try to eat that day the worse the pain] and your set. =] good luck if you get braces, just think of how amazing your teeth will look afterwards!

they do sometimes, especially after they are tightened...

personally i had them for 4 and a half years and i always dreaded going back and getting them tightened every time because they hurt like crazy after i was done..
but it only hurts...lets see about 2 days after
and getting them on doesnt hurt one bit
its really not that big of a deal just one huge tip make sure you brush.really good your gums and your teeth a nd around the brackets and your smile will turn out awesome when its all over

I haven't had braces for a while but I remember they hurt like crazy when I got them on or tightened. When that happens, take Tylenol, it helps a lot.

When they're first fitted - YES a hell of a lot because they are new and pushing down on your teeth so for a few days you can only eat soft foods, after a few days you can eat normally but don't go overboard and eat tofee apples and stuff cause the brackets will break.

When you get them tightened they hurt aswell, but only for a few days.

Initially they do. They might put spacers in between your teeth to make room in your mouth if you need it, and that makes your gums really sore, you might have to stick to soft foods at that point. Then they put on the braces and until your teeth get used to it, you might be a little sore and maybe slightly sore again at each tightening. Once you get used to it though you will be fine.

only when you get them and only a little when you get them tightened

Not really. Only when they get tightened.

Afterwards it only hurts to eat.

You will feel a pressure. The sensation really differs depending on the case.

Hope this helps.
