When should a child have their first visit to the dentist?!

Question: I would say age 3.
Who wants to deal with a terrible two year old in the dentist chair? Allow yourself the luxury of not adding that to your list when your child is 2 years old.

when there first tooth comes in

as soon as the first tooth starts to come in

when they are 2

my health care provider says 12 mos.

as early as 1 yrs old....some go at 6 months

first tooth or before. My dentists recommends 6 months old.

when they are 2

wen the first cavaties appear..haha..

I was told by a dentist that they should start going when they are 2 years old.

My doctor said that since my daughter got her teeth really early her first dentist appointment should be at six months of age but my daughter got her 2 first teeth when she was 3 months so my guess is it just depends on how old your child is when he/she gets there first teeth

around six months

Once the first tooth has come in, because you want to make sure at the first tooth that it's healthy, and if there is a problem with it you can get it taken care of first thing so he/she doesnt have problems with it later..

They say as soon as they get teeth, but most children at that age I would think are not the best patients. My children started at 3.

I've heard around 2 years old---or whenever you need to start brushing their teeth. Try to make this as positive experience as possible so future visits are not traumatizing.

When they have tooth number one come along.

The dentist told me they should come in when they get their first tooth. However, the only thing they've done to my child up to age 3 1/2 is count her teeth and make sure we know how to brush them. They don't clean, x-ray, or really even touch them in any way.

I think it's a personal choice.

age three

at about 6-9 months of age. several of my dentist friends have the parent bring in the child and have them hold the child in their lap and just get the child used to being there. the whole thing lasts maybe 15 minutes. they try to make everything positive. keep the child playing with a toy and get them used to the look and feel of things etc. they repeat this at one year and go on from there.

of course they don't charge for the first couple visits
