Old root canal?!

Question: I had a root canal done a little over a yr ago and tonight, the filling fell out. When she did the RC, I'm assuming she put a permanent filling in since it's stayed in all this time with no problems whatsoever. I hadnt had the crown put on because I've not been able to afford it. I called the dentist (after hours) and he said to just swish salt water and come in tomorrow morning.

So here's my question: my 2 kids, myself and my husband have had a 7 day flu (dr diagnosed). Everyone is back to new except me. I actually went back to the dr today and she said it was probably just still the flu holding on. But she tested me for strep (negative) and did a blood test for Mono, just to be safe. Do you think this tooth is causing my fever? And when I go to the dentist tomorrow, what should I expect?

Thanks for any insight; I'd really appreciate it. I'm worried about it.

A flu is a manifestation of many things. The RCT could be a factor. You should have opted for the crown. Microscopically, there is no perfect approximation between your tooth and the filling material. Dental adhesives to adhere the fill to the tooth are much inferior than the prosthetic cements used to hold crowns. So one scenario would be, your saliva entered in your RC and infected it. Thereby causing microbes to develop and produced the pressure to dislodge your filling.

Bad news is, if that is the case, then you could be suffering from bacterial infection now. Try to research on SBE (subacute bacterial endocarditis).

Hope this helps.
