Traditional metal braces will not only strighten your teeth but also fix your bite and TMJ problems.

Clear braces- or invislign- only strighten your teeth. And not everyone is a canidate.

I had traditional braces and I feel like I got my money's worth and I was 24! Go to an orthodontisit and ask him/her which is better for your paticular mouth. It is recommended that you visit at least 3 different orthodontists since 99% they do not charge for a 1st time consultation.

You can see through the clear ones, but not the metal ones.

The metal ones are more noticable, but they also work faster. The clear ones you cant see but the process isnt as quick so you might be in braces for a little bit longer, but it wont be that much.

as far as appearance go, the clear ones look better. but I also read that they are not as strong as the metal ones. you should explore all your options with your dentist.

It depends on the problems you have. Sometimes the clear or tooth-colored ones will not be strong enough for the correction you need. Your orthodontist will help you decide.

I started out in tooth-colored brackets, but as the tension needed increased (I wore braces for 2 1/2 yrs, and had the tooth-colored brackest for 1st year) they changed me to metal.

I believe the metal ones are attached to your teeth, and have to be removed by a dentist. The clear ones are removable by you. I probably would choose the metal ones because they are more secure and shouldn't break as easy. But, if you are into looks and don't want to look like "metal mouth" in Moonraker then I'd get the clear ones.
