Why is this persons teeth blue?!
Question:
Why is this persons teeth blue?
someone i know has there teeth capped and they look blue at the top, like around the edges and the gumline....what would have caused this? ...it looks like they put a blue paste on his real teeth and stuck the caps on over it...has anyone ever saw this before?
Answers:
The dark shadow under the gumline is the edge of the crown showing through.
Most crowns are porcelain-fused-to-metal-- A metal cap with a layer of porcelain on the outside to make it look like a tooth. The edge of the crown would have a bit of metal there and that sometimes ghosts through the gums.
This can be avoided by using an all-porcelain crown (with no metal in it), but porcelain requires thickness for strength, so the tooth would need to be grinded down even more. All-porcelain crowns are also a bit more expensive.
Hope this helps.
