No i work for a dental insurance company, It shouldnt hurt that bad if you only have a cavity. They will give you anesthesia b4 they fill it! Ask if your insurance covers the composite fillings instead of the silver ones!! They will match your teeth :)
Good Luck!!!!!

no my mom's a dentist. they numb you. at least for me they did. i don't know if they do it where you go but they probably do.

doesnt hurt at all, i even had a cavity filled without any meds, but i have a high pain tolerance. but be sure to let them know if it hurts while they are doing the procedure, that way they can give you more meds.

If the dentist is not particularly skillful, yes! If decay is deep, a large filling can cause temporary discomfort, but it is not supposed to cause pain. If pain develops after a filling is placed, it might suggest nerve damage (a root canal is required to correct the problem). Pain can be produced if the crown of your tooth cracked as a result of the placement of a large filling or a poorly placed filling. Pain can result while chewing if too much filling material has been placed in a tooth. Pain can be the result if there is either an over-abundance of filling material between two teeth (an overhang), or insufficient filling materia that does not quite cover the previously drilled surface area. When you have a competent dentist, pain after the placement of a filling is mild/temporary to non-existent.
