Answers:

You can't cure it. Once the gum has receded to expose the root, you can't get that gum back unless you have a periodontist graft new tissue there. You can use sensitivity toothpaste and/or get your dentist to fill it so that the nerve is sealed.

With the gums receding off the tooth, the root is exposed. Since there is no enamel on the root, the nerve endings are exposed and your tooth will hurt when you touch it, or when you have something cold or sweet. If that's where it hurts, you can use a sensitivity toothpaste to seal the tubules that transmit sensation to the nerve. You don't need to use it on all your teeth (unless all your teeth are sensitive), but you can put a little on your finger and apply it directly to the area and leave it for a few minutes before you brush. Some people it starts working right away, but they say to use it for a full tube before you can really expect results. My pain from that went away in a few days. If you've been using it for a while and don't feel results, your dentist can paint on a varnish to seal it - or bond a filling to it.
