I cut my gum and my cheek what should I do for discomfort?!

Question:

I cut my gum and my cheek what should I do for discomfort?

I was biting on one of those plastic straws that little kids get, well when I was biting on it it slipped and cut my cheek and made a gash in my gum on the top right.
It's really discomforting and I'm getting my other stuff taken out of my mouth the 10th and having the rest of my braces put in too, soooo what should I do to make it stop hurting maybe, and heel faster?

I'm new to this yahoo answers, but thank you.
I forgot all about my wax, i'll just put that over my braces to keep my braces from the sore.

Answers:

Warm salt water rinses will also help the gums heal faster. 1 teaspoon of salt added to a cup of warm water, swish it around for approx. 20-30 secs and expectorate. It is best to use the salt water rinses after brushing and after each meal as well as at bed time. Orabase B or Glyoxide are very good healing ointments that you can purchase over the counter to promote healing as well. Avoid Ambesol and straight Orabase, they are only topical anesthetics that don't contain any ingredient that help heal tissue, in fact prolonged use of these product can cause chemical burns to the tissue.
