My daughter had one. It is an appliance that is in the roof of your mouth. Every day I had to click it 2 clicks. It moves apart very slowly. My daughter said it felt kind of tight but never hurt. She never complained about it. Eventually she could put her finger between her two front teeth. It was amazing. Then the braces went on and she has a smile like in a toothpaste commercial now. It was called a Palate Splitter. The orthodonist told me that it only works before puberty. After puberty, your top palate will turn to bone. Otherwise it is kind of like cartilege. (Or something like that anyway).
