Dentistry question?!

Question: I have an abscessed tooth, the infection has been drained, and the swelling isn't as bad as it was, but there is still the cavity, i was just wondering if that part of my mouth the grow back to the way it was. Also, are pain relievers generally prescribed for this sort of thing, because i sure need them.

The cavity will still be there unless surgery is performed and they sew the end together. Once you have a cavity, you will always have the problem of getting it reinfected especially by food particles that gets stuck there.

What I did was to get a good water pik, use only bottled water, and add 5 drops of Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) which is a natural bacteria killer and make sure that I do this faithfully every night, no exception - even on vacation. You can get the concentrated GSE from this website.

The only time I had it surgically done was when I needed a root canal, and was told by the orthodontis that this procedure needed to be done first.

Pain relievers are fine but only for a short time and they do not stop infections - just bear that in mind.

How soon can you get another dentist appointment?
You should be able to take Aleve or Advil for the pain.
Will the dentist be able to fill the cavity soon or will he have to wait until the swelling goes away?

Of course there are pain meds you can get. Ask you Dr./Dentist for percocet or vicoden. No tylenol w/codeine, it won't be strong enough. Hope you feel better soon!

Did a dentist drain the infection? Did he put you on antibiotics? He should have. Did he book an appointment for a root canal? He should have because you definitely need one. Your dentist might have left the cavity open so that the tooth could continue to drain through the hole. He should have explained this to you. If the infection cannot drain, you get a buildup of pressure from the accumulation of pus which translates into very significant pain. If your dentist simply drained the infection without providing additional appointments for further therapies or information, find another dentist. Yours is a joke.
