Wisdom teeth question...Is this possible?!

Question: After getting my wisdom teeth pulled, is it possible to get a piece of food stuck in the hole and the skin healing over it? So the piece of food would be stuck in there? What would happen if it did?

When you get your wisdom teeth extracted it heals from the bottom of the hole up; a flap of skin doesn't form over the hole. So, you wouldn't get anything stuck in there permanently. Supposing it could get stuck permanently, one of two things could happen. 1) the body would break it down with the enzymes in your saliva and then absorb it, or 2) it would become a pustule that would need to be incised and drained.

i don't know about that but i bet that you just are having a hard time getting the food out. i wasn't using the syringe the right way at first and they washed out so much grossness when i went back for the checkup. it was better once they showed me how to do it right.

if it did you could get a 'dry socket' which will fill with puss and cause extreme pain and headaches...if this happened to me i'd call the one that pulled my teeth and explain the situation

I used to be a dental assistant, and if there was food stuck in there, through regular brushing and rinsing your mouth (with water or mouthwash) would get rid of the stuck food. If there was food that got stuck in it after healing, you could possibly get a gum infection, like gingivitis.

Usually blood clot fills the hole if the socket is kept with out sutures. Even though food lodges in the socket sometimes it does'nt get infected. It takes weeks time to heal the socket. If at all you have dull ache pain you dont have to worry. If it gives you excruciating pain the socket may be infected and you need to consult your dentist. Good luck for a quick healing.
