Teeth extraction by GP referral?!

Question:

Teeth extraction by GP referral?

I have an extreme phobia of the dentist. I also have a familiy history of weak teeth. Mother and sister both had all teeth removed in their thirties.
I have suffered years of excrutiating pain from tooth decay, abcesses, ulcers and would love to have my teeth removed and have dentures. Can this be done in hospital with GP referral or does a dentist have to be involved?

Answers:

Pulling all your teeth is not to be taken lightly. You need to make an informed decision (be aware of all the consequences) before you proceed. You best discuss this with a restorative dentist first.

That said, if you want to have immediate dentures (i.e. they put in dentures on the same day, right after the last tooth is pulled), then you need to plan this in advance with a restorative dentist, so he can have the dentures made and ready to be put in on the day you are getting the extractions.

If you don't mind waiting a few months without teeth while healing up from the extractions, then you can just go straight to the hospital for the extractions, yes. (the hospital needs to have an oral surgery department, of course).
