Does retainers close gaps?!

Question:

Does retainers close gaps?

Answers:

NO. Braces and some appliances move teeth thereby closing gaps. Retainers are worn after the braces or appliance come off to hold the teeth where they have been moved to. Thus a retainer RETAINS the teeth in their new position.
