What exactly are veneers? Are they crowns on the teeth?!

Question:

What exactly are veneers? Are they crowns on the teeth?

Answers:

Think of a veneer as a false front for your tooth. Imagine a fake fingernail. Now imagine a thin sliver of porcelain that is bonded to the front surface of your tooth. The veneer is made after a dentist removes about .5mm from the front of your tooth, gets an imprssion of it with some putty and then sends it to a lab to be made.
A crown is a restoration that is made for a tooth after the entire circumference of the tooth is reduced as well as the top of the tooth being lowered. An impression is then taken and sent to the lab so a crown can be made.
