How do they work?

i have braces, and i got them (supposedly) because i had a huge overbite. tell me how braces are fixing an overbite? isn't an overbite you jaw? wouldn't i need headgear for that?

An overbite is a very common reason for needing braces. Your top teeth are going over the bottom teeth so far that your bottom teeth don't show or very much anyway, when you bite together. Because of pressure being placed on certain teeth it will move them enough that it will open your bite so your upper teeth no longer fit together the way they are now. I have known some people who have had to have some surgery for deep overbites, but hopefully the orthodontist touched on that possibility or told you it wasn't necessary. If you are in braces longer than 3 years and still not finished, I would say surgery is the only way to fully correct the problem. Hopefully that won't be the case for you though.
