You failed to say whether you chew your tongue consciously or subconsciously. I will answer based on "concious" decision to chew.

This habit is up there with cheek biting although far less prevalent. Once the habit begins, you get swelling in the tongue and then it becomes difficult NOT to bite your tongue. A great way to kick the habit is to wear your sports mouthguard (if you have one) as much as possible, obviously taking it out to eat. If you do not have a mouthguard, you can pick one up quite affordably at Walmart. Find one that you have to mold to your teeth for a better fit. It is not necessary to wear a guard on the upper and the lower teeth. Choose an arch that feels most comfortable.
Wear the guard as much as possible for one week (especially at bedtime) then stop. See if the problem has stopped. Still biting? Repeat until habit has stopped.
