How do bands work (Braces)?!

Question: I don't get how they move your teeth, the bands are on the brackets, not ur teeth.. i just dont get it.

Answers: I don't get how they move your teeth, the bands are on the brackets, not ur teeth.. i just dont get it.

what they do first is actually seperate/loosen your teeth..this is done by the resistance of the wires trying to go back to their original shapes (arc shaped)...

Ones teeth are loose and properly positioned through twisting (from the brackets trying to be parallel with the tooth it is attached to and the wires), the teeath are then tightened to give them a straight, tight, and neat look...

the ones that connect upper and lower teeth move your jaw
the color bands are just for color

ask ur dentist... uh duhh..

IT HELPS CREATE PRESSURE FOR YOUR TEETH TO MOVE

dont get clear they will turn yellow

If you look closely...the wires on the braces are placed in a holder on the bracket. The rubberbands go over the brackets, making the wires stay firmly in place and less likely to fall out until they are changed once again.
Take a look at the linked picture below, or at your own teeth.

Also...I must agree with an above poster...don't get clear or glow-in-the-dark bands...they do make teeth look yellow! It was fun having glowing teeth, but not yellow teeth:(

They help move your teeth. When you go back to the orthodontist they tighten your brackets and the bands help put your teeth in align. If you have anymore questions just email me. I know all about braces. I hope this advice helps. ~ Merry Chrismas! :)
