I just had jaw surgery yesterday?!
Question: At about 1 pm. It was for a huge overbite, so they brought the lower jaw foreward, and then widened the upper jaw as well, causing my to have a gap between my front teeth now.
Anyways, the bottom half of my face is dark purple, and it's about the size of a beach ball. I look kind of like popeye. You know how his chin sticks out? Popeye mixed with Frankenstien.
Obviously I ddin't this it'd be gone by today of anything, but does anyone know how long it'll be untill the swelling goes down the the bruising goes away? By the end of Christmas break hopefully.

I had jaw surgery in 2001. They had to remove my 4 back teeth because they thought I had infection in my jawbone They sliced my gum open and sliced off a sliver of the bone and found out I did not have infection in the bone but they still never found out what it was. My jaw swelled huge and the whole side of my face was bruised. I was allergic to pain relivers so I had to use ice for the pain. My swelling stayed about 2 weeks and the brusing lasted about 3 weeks. I think using the ice on it for pain helped to reduce the swelling faster than it would have been if I had not used the ice for the pain. I would recommend you put ice on it every hour for 20 minutes at a time, it will also help the pain. I bruise very easily so your bruising may go away faster than mine did. I know the pain you are in but it won't last forever. Just take it one day at a time and use the ice for swelling. good luck.
have you asked your doctor if the large swelling could be a hematoma (huge blood blister) ? If you have a large accumulation of blood under the skin it will take a while to reabsorb into the body. if it's a very large heamtoma, maybe it can be drained to reduce the size. Call you doctor and ask.

I had the same thing done, minus the widening of the upper jaw. I looked like the moon, my face was perfectly round and all puffed up for about a week, but I had no bruising at all, so I can't answer you on that. Just be careful that you stay warm, because if you start shivering, you'll feel it ten-fold in your face and it'll hurt. Other than that, get the best rest you can and the swelling should be gone after the holidays. Take care.
