Can canker sores be very small?!

Question: I have a very small sore under my tongue, I break out in sore i thought were herpes occasionally, but they only occur inside my mouth on my tongue, cheeks, the base of my gums and under my tongue or inside my lip. They say canker sores are usually large but sometimes the sores I get are very tiny, by the way they look and their location, I very much doubt its herpes. Can canker sores be very tiny to the point that you can barely see them?

Canker sores:
1. Only occur inside the mouth
2. Not contagious
3. Not viral (not caused by a virus)
4. Caused by damage to oral tissue, often by Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, a common foaming agent ingredient in almost all toothpastes.

Cold Sores:
1. Mostly on outside of mouth - sometimes on the inside of the mouth, but only on "hard" surfaces (palate)
2. Contagious
3. Caused by Viruses
4. The first sign is appearance of small blisters (vesicles)

yes, and they could also be herpes.

SOMETHING HERE SCREAMS "HERPES"

Canker sores are a type of herpes. Like the chicken pocks and shingles is too. But to be sure it is not the bad type of herpes you should see a doc

The poster above me is wrong. Canker sores are NOT a form of herpes, she's probably thinking of cold sores. Canker sores are hereditary, and other than that, Dr's don't know any causes. They are more common in females, than males. I used to get them real bad as a teen, and now my 8 year old son gets them. Luckily, they make a gel that coats them, which he says makes them feel better. They didn't have that when I was a kid.

I feel for anyone that gets them, because I know how bad they hurt!
