Is expensive toothpaste extra good for you? or...?!
Question: is it simply the brushing action that helps your teeth? should I just buy the $1 toothpaste? what does your dentist recommend?

what matters is HOW YOU BRUSH.. it doesnt really matter what toothpaste you use... as long as you brush your teeth EVERY AFTER MEAL with a good method (circular motion) not plain vertical or horizontal, and dont brush it to hard (to prevent abrasion) your teeth will be healthy all the time.
P.S : dont forget to floss at least ONCE A DAY, to remove food left in between the teeth ^_^
The cost of a tooth paste does not matter. Any toothpaste, no matter the cost, is just as effective. Brushing with just a toothbrush and water can be just as effective in removing plaque, if a proper brushing technique is used (which is difficult for anybody, even me, a dental hygienist.) I still recommend using a toothpaste compared to just water. Toothpastes are just used for the flavor and more of a clean, just-went-to-the-dentist feeling. Yes, there are several ingredients in toothpastes that target to help certain things (whitening, tartar control, sensitivity, etc.) But overall, they are almost all the same. So I would stick to whatever you can afford and whatever taste you prefer best!
