Does anyone know a good prevention method for mouth ulcers?!

Question: The most common type of mouth ulcers are called 'apthous' ulcers. They are probably viral. (though no virus has been identified.)This means they should not be given antibiotics as there have no effect. There behaviour is similar to cold sores, in that they are recurrent, come out when we are run down and we never seem to develop immunity. Here the similarity ends, because unlike herpetic cold sores there is no treatment, nor any preventatives I am afraid.

Each ulcer lasts about 10 days, but you can get further crops erupting, so each episode may last longer than that.

Ice,ice cream and cold soft items, become the easiest things to eat. Teething gels sometimes help. There are 2 prescription drugs for apthous ulcers, Corlan Pellets and Adcortyl in Orobase paste. Both are steroids, only reduce the nipping a bit and neither hastens resolution.

i hate these too! omg what i do is i brush my teeth daliy and try not to eat lotsof salty food and i haven't got one in a long time!

I'm not sure there is one. I'm suffering with them at the moment - once they're here you have to go with it - my dentist friend tells me they're with you for 7 days whether you like it or not. I've been taking multi vitamins to give my system a boost, but to no avail. Some people are perhaps just prone to them.

nope, but i'm gonna star this so i can find out too, i do find the best way to get rid of them is rub salt on them, painful, but usualy gone the next day.

get well fitted choppers

mouthwash and floss plus use an electric toothbrush

Yep, don't eat flavoured crisps. I stopped eating them and I'm not bothered anymore. plain seems to be ok though.

Ok you professionals... I'm living proof that NOT eating flavoured potato crisps helps avoid these horrible afflictions...advice freely given peeps.

Nobody knows the exact cause of mouth ulcers.
there are several types, and the most common on is the 'apthouse ulcer'. Known to be more common in people who are stressted out, worried, have mental tension, and suffer from lack of sleep etc. Usually these ulcer may be single or multiple and take anywhere from 5 days to 14 days heal. Can be painful.
So prevention would be, to combate all of the above possible causes. Drink a lot of water, make sure you are getting enough B complex vitamins.
These ulcers again, are more common in some age and later on life, it may completely disapper.
You could apply gels available off the shelf in a drug store to combate the pain.
All the best !

Make sure your dental hygiene is correct. Then try taking Zinc tablets. These you can get from your local Health Food Shop, you will need to take them for a few weeks before your see an improvement....Good Luck.

Some people are sensitive to toothpastes that contain the ingredient Sodium Laural Sulfate. It is the foaming agent. The harshness of the chemical has been proven to create microscopic damage to the oral tissue. Trying to find a toothpaste without it is difficult because the t.p. companies want people to believe the more foam the better the t.p. is working. Try these brands: Arm & Hammer T.P., Tom's of Maine, or Rembrandt.
Other things to avoid are: Lip biting, stress, trauma from rough food such as potatoe chips, taco chips or pretzels.

Multivitamins especially B complex.
