God Bless and Merry Christmas!

I had braces more times than most people. My number one piece of advice is to wear your retainer!!!! I know others have said the same thing, but it's so importantly true!!! Another very important thing to remember is to KEEP THEM CLEAN! This is going to be harder than it is without the braces. One little tool that will help is a power toothbrush. The one I recommend a lot is the Crest Spin Brush Pro. It's inexpensive and the top head on the brush spins so it is perfect for around brackets. Make sure to brush right where the tooth and the gum meet (above the bracket on top teeth, below the bracket on bottom). This is a spot that gets missed alot by people with braces. Also make sure that you slow down and brush each tooth/bracket thoroughly!! Another really great product is the Shower Floss (type it in in a search engine such as Google). This is similar to a water pik, but is used in the shower so it eliminates the mess....it's awesome for people with or without braces. Anyway, just some tips to help you keep those teeth clean so that when the braces come off you have a beautiful, healthy smile!!! Good luck!!!

Braces are not that bad. Sure at first they can be a little annoying but after a while you get used to them. When you get your braces off, your teeth will feel a little slimey and if you don't wear your retainer, then your teeth will get shifted into crooked positions. I am very happy with the results i got from the braces and i am sure that you will too.

I had braced for two years, and had them taken off last year (06 in may). My experience with them? Well the first few weeks werent comfortable, its take alot of time getting used to (cleaning wise) you will feel some discomfort. I always recieved complements when i had braces, pretty ironic, but alot of people liked them on me. I didnt have anything major done. Depending on what you need done, will determine the how much pain you will feel, its different for everyone. I had retainers too, as for that, i dont keep up with them and havent worn them (bad idea). Overall i am very pleased with the outcome, and the experience wasnt bad at all. I love my smile, my teeth are perfectly straight, alot of people compliment my smile, and its usually the first thing someone notices about me. So hang in there! And it is worth the pain!

Oh ya I had braces for a few years. My biggest piece of advice to you would be to take tylenol or advil before getting your braces tightened. As for teeth extractions I had six because my teeth were crowding. I also wore a retainer for a while. I am very happy with how my teeth turned out. Before braces, my bottom teeth were really crooked and I couldnt cut food with my front teeth.

I had two teeth extractions on the top... (I was born without two teeth on the bottom, so they pulled the two on the top) and then the braces on top and bottom. My teeth are good now, they stayed in for two years (the braces)

One thing I remember... is buy the braces wax. You can get it at any CVS or Walgreens. It WILL come in handy. You will break your brackets, and things will come apart... so just be ready. Be very careful too, replacements might cost money for you. (I used to break the same on in the back, and eventually he made me pay)

WEAR YOUR RETAINER when it is done. I wore it... but then I lost it. My teeth have moved slightly... they are still pretty and straight, but I can see which ones have moved and how much.

When they first get on.. you mouth will hurt. It will. Orajel is good... and do exactly what the orthodontist tells you. (And eat what he suggests). When he tightens your braces, they will hurt for a few days after. Take tylenol or Advil before you go... (and when you go to first get them on)

Any other questions you can write me if you want.

i originally had 3 sets of permanent teeth, so i had MANY extractions. my teeth were horrendous. one of my front teeth was completely covered by the other. i had the regualr metal braces, and had them for four long years. i didn't like how they looked and was really anxious to get rid of them. looking back now i'm extremely greatful that i had the braces during my awkward preteen years and got it over with. i did not wear the retainer. i was supposed to, but it didn't have much of an affect on my results. i am not only happy but very relieved that i had braces. i can only imagine the self esteem issues i would have faced if my teeth looked the way they originally did. good luck, and be patient.

i got braces a few years ago, and they were 'speed braces' so i only needed them for about a year and a half. they were annoying at first, but i got used to them, and the only part that actually hurts is the day after you get them tightened. andd its not even bad. when i got them off, my teeth were so perfect it was great. but i made a huge mistake in not wearing my retainer, so i had to get them back on! thats not exactly how it will go with you though. some people can go without wearing the retainer at all and their teeth wont move, but others like me, if you dont wear your retainer, your teeth will shift either right back or worse then they were before. but the point of the matter is that they arent bad at all and you may think that at first, but youll get used to them and theyll be off in no timmmme. besides, its definately worth it.

My teeth were horrible!! one of my two front teeth was on the verge of overlapping and my teeth were just plain retarded. So ....its not really bad. I had to get a tooth pulled to its normal spot cuz it was stuck in the roof of my mouth. When u put the braces on it doesn't hurt but a couple of hours later your teeth are sensitive to everything...eating marshmallows is equivalent to eating cement.. You get used to everything so much that when the time comes to take them off it feels awkward yet so relieving!

I had to wear retainers for a year but i lost them......i think my teeth are fine though cuz its almost a year in January and my teeth look the same as when i took the braces off. Overall, its not a bad experience..just remember the beautiful smile your gonna have once your braces are off!

good luck and happy holidays:)

I had braces for 4&1//2 years.
My teeth are now nicely lined up and straight.
I wear a retainer at nights, so it's no problem at all.
I had teeth extracted because I had extra due to genetics.
Yep I'm glad I had braces

If you get braces make sure to floss everyday using floss threaders to get the floss under the wires or buy floss with hard ends (available in local drugstore) so you can feed the hard tip under the braces. This is very important as I had gum recession only because I did to floss properly/enough while having braces on

My experience with braces isn't bad at all, in fact I'm glad I'm going through the experience right now because I can give an insight and advises to people who are curious about braces...Also, braces didn't hurt as much as I thought it was going to. I mean, before I got braces I was terrified, like it was going to be one the worse pain in my life, but it wanst at all. The only time it hurt a slight bit was when they tightened the wire every month.

My teeth now are much more straight however the bottom ones still need a little work but pretty much straight. Before, my teeth were ridiculous, I had a slight overbite, 1 of my front incisors was twisted and off aligned, and two of my bottom teeth were also twisted. You'll see changes in like 2 months wearing braces, but just as warning, you're going to to feel some pain the first week and month you get your braces because your teeth and gums aren't use to the pressure from the braces.

And yes! I am very much happy now! Before I got my braces, I was very self conscious and never wanted to smile for any pictures or anything. After getting them I love to smile and talk to people! I think thats why most people get braces, to have a nice smile. A nice smile can go a long way.

I'm 13, and I got my braces on in mid-May of my 6th grade year. I'm now in 8th, so it's been 2 years. My teeth are WAY better now. I'm hoping to get them off in less then a year. They do give you some cuts on the inside of your mouth, so do get wax from your orthodontist. If you don't take care of your cuts, they'll get infected [ and that get's nasty. ] Anyway, good luck!

I still have my braces in, but I had 2 extractions (overcrowded teeth, meant I had rotated teeth), which were actually painless. I would be lying if I said that braces didn't hurt at all, because the reality is that they have to hurt for your teeth to go to the right places. Even though I've only had my braces for around 3 months, they work quite fast and the changes are actually visible to you and your friends/family. They only hurt for around 2-3 days, but a little painkiller would help with the pain (if any!). After the first couple of adjustments, they just seem to get easier and almost pain-free.
