What can i do? My filling and crown from a Root Canal have come out?!

Question: It's christmas eve. and My filling and crown from a root canal i had done 2 years ago has come out. I look at my tooth and there's a gaping hole in the middle. Is it dangerous to have my teeth exposed like that. I don't think i can go to a dentist until the day after with christmas eve and all. what kind of precautions can i take in the meanwhile?

Hi..I don't think it is your filling that came out with the crown but the post. It is possible that the crown can be re-cemented on your tooth..but only your dentist knows for sure. Avoid chewing on that side and avoid candy and anything that is tough to chew altogether..until you get back in the chair. I know it is Christmas eve and all..but try to go gentle with anything you eat. There is some danger to your situation. The tooth is vulnerable and no longer protected..hence the post and crown..so it could break if you are not careful. What you could do in the meantime is..go to the store and pick up some dental temp material..in the toothbrush section and temporarily affix it yourself. The package contains all the know how. If you do place the crown back on your tooth..avoid any sticky or chewy that WILL pull it off again. Good luck to you!

set an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible.. in the meantime, try to gargle with a mouthwash or saline solution every after meals, and try not to get any food stuck in there... which is actually difficult to do

you will be OK--try chewing on opposite side to keep from packing food in hole after eating rinse out real good before brushing stops you from pusing anything in hole-dentist will clean out hole and re glue it back in no problem
