Invisalign help?!

Question:

Invisalign help?

I'm going to the dentist on the 10th of July to get work done for Invisialign. What will they do? How long after this visit will I get my Invisialigners? Does Invisialign hurt?

Answers:

It sounds like you are going to get all the preparation work done for Invisalign. As with all orthodontics such braces and Invisalign, planning is really important and this "records taking" appointment is key. What I do at this appoinment for my patients is a couple of orthodontic xrays (of the skull and jaws), photographic records and moulds or impressions of the teeth. The process is painless so don't worry about it. I never had a patient complain about their records taking appointment.

The manufacture and delivery of the Invisalign aligners varies. After everything is shipped from your dentist's office to Invisalign in California then it is usually a couple of weeks before your dentist receives the digital simulation of the treatment plan and the predicted tooth movement and result. He may need to alter the plan a bit to make sure your desired goal is achieved. Then Invisalign manufacture the actual aligners in their factory which usually takes another couple of weeks. I tell my patients it will be about a month after the records are taken before they will start their treatment but this timing can vary plus or minus a whole week.

The answer to your final question about Invisalign hurting is that is can hurt but shouldn't if the treatment is well designed, using minimal forces and small tooth movements to get the job done. Plans where teeth are pushed hard to move teeth fast tend to give more discomfort. My patients report a bit of discomfort and very very rarely to a point where they needed to take a paracetamol. No major pain thats for sure.

Good luck. It will be worth it int he end.
