Bump on my tongue?!

Question: There is this strange white bump on the side of my tongue and several smaller ones on either side of it. It does not hurt and I didn't even know I had it until my dentist pointed it out. I know its not herpes or anything like that. My dentist said that it might be because i bit it in the last month and sometimes it takes some time to go back to normal. But one of the smaller bumps just appeared yesterday. The bigger one has been there for at least a week now and i am worried. What could it be?

It is hard to say what it might be, without seeing it (and even then it might be hard to know what it is). I would say that if it's not better within two weeks, to go back to your dentist and have them look at it again. If it is a traumatic injury, it will likely be healed by then, but if it is not healed it might be something else. Sometimes the only way to find out what something is is to have the lesion biopsied... not to worry, if needed, these areas are usually easily numbed and they usually will heal faster than any of other location in the body. It is good that you're concerned, though I wouldn't worry too much about it, especially if your dentist did not seem worried about it. Most often, especially in situations where bumps or lesions occur in different areas of the mouth, these are things which will resolve on their own or not be harmful long-term. So, bottom line, if they don't go away I would have been looked at again... at the same time don't lose any sleep over this -- it is unlikely to be anything harmful.
