New retainers.?

i got my braces off a month ago. and ive been wearing my clear retainer. but i just had an appointment, and in 4 weeks i have to get a new one. its not clear though. it has a metal bar that goes in the front of your teeth. does it hurt? will i get used to it? how long do i have to wear it?

i had a retainer like that in 7th grade, it doesn't hurt one bit and isn't really all that noticeable. the only thing that sucks about it is taking it out infront off people to eat and loosing it because you wrap it up in a napkin so others wont see it and you forget about it and toss the napkin. i was suposed to have mine on for 3 years. i lost or broke so many my mom stopped buying them after 1 year so now my bottom teeth are moving back. so just listen to your dentist when he says how long you have to have it and i sugest leaving it in the lil container they give you when your eating so u dont have to go dumpster diveing for it later.
