How do I know when I have a cavity?!

Question:

How do I know when I have a cavity?

I have this loose tooth....I mean REALLY loose. Above the loose tooth is a strange bump. I have been asking questions about whether I had gum disease or not, but I really don't think so anymore. The tooth is also a little...black...welll, I don't know how to explain it. Do you think that this is just a really horrible cavity? I can't go to the dentist until this Friday, unfortunately. =/

Answers:

You probably should have gone a long time ago. The bump is probably an abscess caused by an infected tooth, and the black is probably a shadow from the enamel being eaten away. FYI - cavities aren't always accompanied by pain; many people have them and don't realize it. Good luck.
