For those who already wore invisalgin please help?!

Question: My dentist will soon be giving me invisalign. That is not the problem. My problem is that my top teeth will be straightened out first before my bottom teeth and he told me to wear a retainer for my top teeth while my bottom teeth gets straightened. For those who wore invisalign already, is the retainer permanent or is it temporary?

I have been braces free going on 3 years now. My orthodontist instructed me to still wear my invisalign retainer at night and I still do. I was instructed for the first 3-6 months to wear it all of the time except when eating and brushing. Then I could wear it only at night. I was also told that if a miss wearing it at night one night, it is OK but I should wear it every night to ENSURE the alignment stays. I just went back to get a 2.5 year check and my teeth haven't moved AT ALL!!! the invisalign retainer is not "permanent" as in permanently attached, it is a permanent thing in your life though....if you want to keep the beautiful smile you were gifted that is. My retainer is so light and small I barely remember it is there.
I agree, that whoever said braces are a one-time fix is seriously wrong. Braces are just to place the teeth in the correct spots, but the teeth can shift and probably will if the retainer is not worn. If given the chance to do things over, I would never change the fact that I went with braces (and I'm an adult of 30 years).

In my books, retainers are forever. Patients whose teeth remain straight for a lifetime after wearing braces are far outnumbered by patients who saw a relapse.

Wear retainers all the time for at least a year after braces come off. After that, try it on every week. If there are no pressure spots, put it away. If there are pressure spots, teeth have shifted. Wear it every night until the pressure is off.

How straight you keep your teeth is entirely up to you. Just don't believe the fairy tale about braces being the one-time miracle fix.

I was in the same situation, except my bottom teeth finished first. The retainer is really the same as the invisalign trays but they hold the teeth instead of moving them. In most cases i've heard of, they recommend you wear your retainers full time for at least a few months and then you switch to just at night for about a year. ive been finished with invisalign since last january (bottoms) and may (tops) and i still wear my retainers at night.
