Is it normal for a root canal to cost $1600?!

Question:

Is it normal for a root canal to cost $1600?

I've heard that they only cost around $800 and my cousin got one done for $400. Is $1600 to pricy or is it normal?

Yes that's for everything including the crown. I did hear the assistant saying that they needed to do a combo on that tooth any idea what that means?

The dentist said that with insurance it would only cost $800, but that she has to check if our insurance is valed there.

Answers:

It depends on the dentist and if insurance covered any. It also depends on how much work needs to be done on the tooth and if they get the restoration right then. I believe that $1600 would include the root canal and crown.

Since you said that price includes the root canal and crown, yes, $1600 is absolutely reasonable. I had a root canal done ($800) and a crown ($700), so you're only $100 more. I know it sounds like a lot, but that is standard cost without insurance.
