What would cause my son's gums to bleed?!

Question: He is 26 years old. He does not get a nutritious diet and I think he grinds his teeth, I know he did when he was younger. He has always taken care of his teeth. Any ideas?

if he grinds his teeth this should not cause his gums to bleed but will cause some tmj problems these are muscualr problems in the jaw and he will need a splint tohelp him.
bleeding gums is caused by bacteria in the mouth that cause gums to swell and become infected this is called gingivitis (gingiva meaning gums and itus meaning swollen) he should start to floss twice a day and not straight after meal times also get a mouthwash called corsodyl is sposed not to taste very nice but works well by reducing infection also do not use regullaly as can stain teeth if then problems persist take him to see the dentist who might refere him to see a hyginist who will professionally clean your sons teeth and may reduce the bleeding and offer some oral hygine advice

good luck let me know what happens or if u need more help

Grinding his teeth is usually a sign of anxiety, and it causes much pain to a person's jaw. If you see him massaging his jaw and stretching it, then he is grinding his teeth.

Furthermore, he most likely has gingivitis. You should see your dentist immediately, and he can recommend some toothpaste or other tooth treatments that can reverse the problem.

brushing to hard and gingivitus

does your son have a receding gumline? if so, and his flossing habits are poor this could be a sign of periodontal disease. periodontal disease is an infection of the gums, that without proper treatment, can destroy bone and cause tooth loss. i'd definitely get him in to see a specialist, especially considering his age is prime for periodontal disease. what happens is bacteria gets into places where your toothbrush cannot reach in between the gum and tooth, it eventually diminishes your dental health. periodontal disease is something that progresses rapidly and is very destructive. so i'd definitely get him checked out immediately. maybe get him a night guard made as well to help with the grinding.

Anytime there is bleeding, there is a reason for it. It can be minor or it can be severe, it depends on how long it's been going on and why. Your son should see his dentist for a thorough cleaning and exam so this can be evaluated quickly before irreversible damage has occurred. Gingivitis can be cured, but left untreated it progresses to perio disease and the damage it causes to the surrounding ligaments and bone is permanent. Have him see his dentist soon.

brush floss and rinse 3 times a day and see a dentist.
