It doesn't hurt to put braces on. The pressure of the teeth moving (pain) doesn't start until about four hours after they have been put on. Tylenol or Advil is usually sufficient to deal with it, and it can last for the first week. Other appointments or adjustments will only cause discomfort for about a day or two. Using a topical anesthetic for orthodontic discomfort is useless. That just numbs the gums. The discomfort from braces is caused by the pressure on the ligament around the tooth which causes the tooth to move. If you are extremely sensitive, take the Tylenol or Advil before the appointment and take more in four hours to augment the effect.

Bonjela?

Try Rinstead mouth gel

You can go to any Walmart, Target, etc and buy Anbesol. It numbs the teeth or lips. It is a topical anesthetic. Your orthodontist should be able to give you something for pain.

clove oil works well but it smells very bad so give anbesol a go. it helped when i had an abcess.

bonjella

Just do what I do before every othodontist appointment - take a couple of painkillers about 30 mins beforehand! Don't worry about the first appointment - having braces put on for the first time does not hurt.

no cream or lotion, but theres difflam oral mouth rinse, you can get from a chemist about over five pounds, contains a local anaesthetic which will help numb your mouth , other thing you can do is suck strepsils the one with the anaesthetic in it as well not just the ordinary ones for sore throats

Get Anbesol. Its a pharmacy only product, it works quite well. You are gonna have to put up with a bit of discomfort when you have them fitted at first, but as you become used to them they shouldnt cause too much problem.

When you see the dentist ask him what he usually recommends.

Yea try a fist!

Im dealing with an infected tooth right now, and I use Orajel. Its more of a liquid than Ambesol, and you put it on with a qtip. I find that it lasts longer than Ambesol, which for me only lasts about 5,maybe 10 minutes.

bonjelas the only thing i can think of

Ask your Orthodontist for a shot of Novocaine before getting the braces.

Can I suggest the best person to ask would be your dentist
