Tongue Piercing query?!

Question: I had my tongue pierced about 10 days ago. It does not hurt anymore and the swelling has gone down completely. I'm ready to change my bar to the shorter one but was advised to get a piercist to do it for me...although my mate did hers herself.

Advice???

If you can't look in the mirror and go "YES!!! I know how to change this myself and I will do a fine job!" then ask your piercer to change it for you.

The more nervous and shy you are about changing your tongue ring the harder it will be. If you are determined to try it yourself, get everything squeaky clean and then relax.

Look at the new tongue ring. Put it together, take it apart, know how it works. Now stick out your tongue and look at how the jewlery goes through it. Does it go straight top to bottom, does it have a little bit of an angle? Observe so you can try to work the jewlery through at the right angle to get it in place. The more familiar you are with your piercing, the easier changing it will be and the more confident you will feel. In the end if the idea still makes you nervous, put the new tongue ring in a baggie and go to the piercer and have them change it.

I changed mine on my own. I didn't take the time to realize that it went through my tongue at an angle (bright, i know) so I spent a while fooling around with it and drooling on my hands. In the end I managed to get the tongue ring back in with little discomfort and much the wiser.

If you have the confidence for it and observe your piercing carefully first you should be able to change it yourself. BE SURE TO TIGHTEN IT WELL!!! Check it again later to make absolutely sure. If you'd rather not mess with it, go back to the piercer and have them show you how to change it so you can do it yourself in the future. There's nothing wrong with asking them to help you, its part of what piercers are there for. Go with whichever solution is more comfortable for you.

they are great when getting a bj,more sensitive on the bellend

I did mine myself, make sure you sterilise the bar before you put it in, i put mine in boiling water and sea salt. I had no problems after i did it and change it quite regularly!!!

u.ll be fine doing it by urself

Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 20 years and get asked this all the time. Sterilize the new bar with the ball end off with warm water and salt, or Listerine or better yet, peroxide. Wash hands for a good minute. Now rinse with Listerine very salty warm water.
Remove first bar unscrewing the ball on the end. Gently pull the bar out. Rinse with Listerine/warm salt water again and insert new bar. Please refrain from oral sex for another 10 days until tongue has healed. A re-infection is hard to manage. Also, DO NOT clunk bar on teeth. I have repaired molars and front teeth that have cracked from the patients playing with the ball on the teeth. Good luck and remember to use mouth rinses or warm salt water until tongue has healed. ~!M

sorry as a dentist i am against all this piercing ... this may cause chronic trauma to the tongue ... and chances of aspiration of a ring which is not fit properly has a risk ... this is what i can tell ......take care
