I have a small lump in my gum................?!

Question: I dont wanna sound gross but i've got puss and blood out of it,it then goes down but gets bigger again. I don't think its an abcess coz i've had them before and they're lower down and painful(this isnt). I've also had a bad taste in my mouth, even when I brush my teeth,it doesnt feel really fresh in my mouth.
Anyone have any ideas? Its been for about 6 weeks.
Thanks

If it is not a dental abscess (an infection inside of the tooth), then it is a gum abscess. This means there is an infection between the gum and the tooth. It is generally caused when there is a foreign body in the space between the gum and the tooth. These foreign bodies can be one or more of the following:

- faulty filling or crown
- plaque
- tartar
- food debris
- brush bristle
- piece of dental floss or toothpick
- etc.

You might also have a periodontal pocket. This means the gum is pulling away from the tooth. When this happens, it is very easy to get food debris in there and it is easy to get plaque and tartar buildup in there.

The gum looks like a lump when the pus builds up. Eventually, if you are lucky, it drains and the bump goes down. Because the original cause for the infection has not been addressed, the bump comes back and the cycle will go on and on.

You need a dentist or hygienist to do a periodontal evaluation, take some x-rays, do a deep cleaning (probably with freezing), and teach you proper oral hygiene techniques. Depending on the severity of your infection, you might need antibiotics.

Start brushing the area 3 times per day, floss at least daily, rinse with hydrogen peroxide mixed 1/2 and 1/2 with warm water daily.

Failure to resolve gum infections results in tooth loss so get this infection cleared up.

it may be an abcess, but to be on the safe side go see a doctor or a dentist. if its an ulcer, I don't want to worry you hun, but it could be a sign of mouth cancer, go to see someone as soon as possible. Wish you all the luck in the world xx

go to the docs hunni.....it's probably just an infected pore or something but go anyway. they can give you some anti-b's to get rid of it.

Your best bet is to see the dentist to check it out. I once had a tooth filled and the gum rejected the filling. This showed itself by a lump under the tooth (in the side of the gum) which did exactly the same as your lump. Dentist said it would do that forever until either the filling was replaced or the tooth extracted. In the event the filling was replaced by another and from then on the lump went down and no problem. But my lump stayed for many weeks too whilst the bad filling was there.
Ps -I went to the doctors first, but he said it was a dentists job, so save yourself time and see the dentist.

go to a dentist most docs will not touch your mouth -they will say go to the dentist so save yourself time-sounds like an abcess

Go see a dentist!Have him take an X-Ray.if you're not in pain and/or don't have any fever...maybe,just maybe, mighty be some piece of food that got deep in the gum and caused the infection, and a floss wouldn't solve the problem.

I had this once, i was young.. about ten.
It might be a cyst. Go to the dentist, he may have you go to a specalist and he/she may perform oral surgery.

Oral surgery is a pretty much minor surgery, oral surgons do it every day.. they'll just relieve the pressure and cut it out, it may effect adult teeth, but nothing they can't solve.

I've had exactly the same thing. Mine first appeared around 2 years ago, and went within a week. Over the next 18 months it came and went, but nothing for the last 6 months. I mentioned it last time I went to the denist and he told me it was nothing to worry about.

I would advise you to see your denist though to make sure.

It does sound like an abcess. The bump you have is also called a fistula, which is a pathway of drainage for the infection. Usually when these are present, you do not have any pain because it is draining and there isnt any pressure building up. I would call your dentist as soon as you can. Good luck

Most likely, a little infection. Best to go see the dentist (Not the doctor) and they will know for sure.

They will probably precribe some Amoxycillin Antibiotics (Or a similar brand of Antibiotics) that you take twice a day for a week and it will go away easily.

Its no big
